Hi there! I’m Amy.
RainMakesApples was the AOL Instant Messenger handle I chose as a teenager. (For anyone too young to remember, AIM was like our texting in the late 90s and early 2000s, except you could only do it from a computer.) I was having a really hard time coming up with a username that wasn’t already taken, and also in the middle of reading a Mary Downing Hahn YA novel called The Wind Blows Backward. (Full Disclosure: MDH was my absolute jam as a kid, but I don’t think I ever finished this book.) Frustrated, I started flipping through it looking for an unusual combination of words and landed on RainMakesApples. I decided I liked it. The name sounded sort of silly, sweet, and optimistic. And, more importantly, it was available! Hooray! Now I could finally send my friends online messages about angst and Counting Crows lyrics! (If I knew you back then, I’m so very sorry for all the angst. But, seriously, have you listened to August and Everything After yet? Like, REALLY listened?)
The name is a throwback to the days when I was certain I’d grow up to be a writer. Maybe one day I still will (feel like a writer, a grownup, or both)! I love food, saving money, gardening, bird watching, crafting, 90s and early 2000s nostalgia, being an introvert, and dissecting my past. My husband and kid are the loves of my life. Our daughter was born 9 weeks early, so preemies hold an extra special place in our hearts. I hope to touch on some or all of those topics here!
